It is a sad irony and one that must trouble
Oprah Winfrey to the core that the school she started in hopes of shaping future leaders in Africa was the setting for possible child abuse, a trauma that Winfrey herself knows all too well. It is a wake up call that having the will and the money to make the dream happen is only part of the challenge, even if you are Oprah Winfrey, or maybe we should say,
especially if you are Oprah Winfrey. An effort to do-good has been hit by criticism that rules are too strict, security is too tight, and that the building is too ugly. Local residents said that they were excluded from getting jobs at the school. Others have said, why not include boys, and why not open the school in the U.S. ? Now, the school is embroiled in scandal, and children allegedly have been hurt. The mogul has
made a tearful apology to parents and has given each student her personal phone number and email address. At least two matrons and the school principal have been placed on leave and police continue to investigate.
